i got an email from my mother yesterday at lunch time. thankfully, dana got it first and warned me as i was heading to the thai place with karen. and thankfully, i managed to not read it until i was home.
it was a rough night.
mom had gotten the complete coroners report and the police report on melissas death. they were stopped waiting to turn left when the car hit them from the left rear, breaking melissas leg. she was thrown up and off the bike, hit her head on the girls windshield, hit the roof of the car, and landed in the ditch.
the cause of death was head trauma, but she also suffered some chest damage, as well as internal injuries. neither the coroners report nor the death certificate mentioned anything about a broken neck, yet my brother rodney thought he noticed that when he saw her body at the funeral home in soldotna.
melissa took the majority of the impact, saving ryans life. he was tossed into the ditch and suffered some broken ribs, some internal injuries, and lots of bruises and cuts.
i think its a good thing i read it, and even better that i read it at home, alone. i cried for at least a half hour, and just as hard as when i first heard about her death. i cried and cried, then slept for two hours.
i slept through bible study, and only awoke when b came home and accidentally turned on the bedroom light. for the rest of the night i was in this half-asleep/half-aware state.
