thats that, then. plans have
thats that, then.
plans have been made. cars have been rented. flights have been booked.
my brother and i are going to homer to visist my parents for the weekend. we will fly into anchorage friday morning where ill pretend to wave at steveo (but not this steveo, and not that steve-o. instead, i mean the alaskan steveo. confused yet?). well grab a rental car and drive the 4 hours to homer.
its much much quicker than driving fairbanks to homer (which is a 12-hour trip one way), and much cheaper than flying all the way into homer (were saving about $200). besides, after driving the 12-hour fairbanks to homer trip numerous times, a four hour one way is a walk in the park. but were driving. obviously.
im also bringing my mom a new computer. hers is four or five years old, and i act as her tech support. its much easier on all involved (including me) to just get her upgraded. im going to have fun teaching her windows xp.
now that theres no turning back, no renigging the trip, let us look at the trip in further detail.
pros:
-- i get to see my mom. i get to spend more time with her than a 30 minute phone call a few times a week on my lunch hour. i get to give her a hug.
-- my bed. the bed that was bought for me and perfectly conforms to my body (yes, even a 10 pound heavier body). the only other people to have slept on this bed were guests in the house. and i get to sleep on it alone. the other times ive visited my parents, b has been with me. and my spot, my perfect indention, is on the side that is usually his. which complicates things.
-- homer is much warmer than fairbanks. last night it was 30°F, and on monday it was in the 50s. ill be able to wear my flip flops the entire time.
-- ill be able to listen to my old pastor sunday morning. he is such an awesome teacher, and hes actually interesting. interesting preachers are few and far between. if i decide to get up a little earlier, ill probably help my mom with her sunday school class. i havent worked with kids in aaages.
-- ill be able to visit melissas grave. sad, morbid, but necessary. ill ball my eyes out. wait - maybe this should go under cons.
-- ryan, melissas boyfriend who was driving the motorcycle at the time of the accident, is in homer that weekend. i have the opportunity to talk with him and tell him i dont blame him. if i choose to take advantage of that opportunity.
cons:
-- my dad will be there. ill have to interact with him. the non-yelling type of interaction.
-- the cost of the trip is okay, but still is a couple hundred for the round trip.
-- ill spend at least one evening setting up the new computer and teaching her how to use it. and then figuring out what to do with the other one.
-- b isnt going with me. im going to miss him those 4 days.
at least the pros outweigh the cons.

5 Love Notes
Another Pro to add to the list !!
