hair

May 9, 2003

a meme. blah. the weekly wrap-up.

how much hair did you have when you were born?

i dont know - some, probably.

share a hair memory from childhood.

my mother agreed to give me a home perm when i was around 10. we bought the supplies, rolled all of my hair up in the rollers, and marinated it in all those lovely chemicals.

those chemicals reacted with our mega-hard super-mineralized well water in an unsatisfactory manner.

by unsatisfactory, i mean bright orange.
more sewer-water-orange when wet.

my hair has always been quite long, and i was so attached to its length that i didnt want to cut any of it out. the last of the nasty orange finally grew out when i was 18 or 19.

i will probably never add chemicals to my hair again.

how do you style your hair now? how much time to do you spend on caring for your hair?

i spend as little time possible on my hair.

it takes about 20 minutes to wash, condition, and dry the two foot long beast. most days i will skip the brushing and just put it into a bun.

if i dont have the time to shower, it will most likely be too greasy to look good pulled back or up, so ill leave it down.

even when dressing up, the time i spend on doing my hair is minimal - especially considering its length and thickness. ill pull it back or up or both, but no sprays, gels, or electricity will be applied.

but even then, if it wont go right, my arms can get a bit numb.

describe your worst hair day? what happened?

it probably wouldnt twist like i wanted it to, or it was uneven, or whatever. my arms probably went numb. i probably said 'screw it' and undid the whole thing.

what's the best and worst thing about your hair? why?

my hair is healthy. praise God. for the 18 years i lived in my parents house, my hair was the furthest thing from healthy. it was awful and coarse and frizzy and split-endy nearly and nasty. bad bad bad.

but then i moved away and used city water and got bunches of trims and voila: healthy hair. yay!

if its not pulled back or up, it gets in the way; it can tickle my face, get caught in computer fans (which hurts: not recommended), and doesnt stop getting in my face.

but when it is pulled back, the stuff is darn heavy.
