thank you thank you
nearing the end of a brief phone conversation...
them: okay, i appreciate it.
me: youre welcome.
them: thank you.
whats up with that?
am i expected to give another 'youre welcome'?
was i incorrect to assume their 'i appreciate it' was synonymous with 'thanks'?
this happens with about 60% of all phone calls i answer at work, and it drives me batty.

Eh, screw with them.
them: I appreciate it.
you: you're welcome.
them: thank you.
you: good morning
them: what? It's five in the afternoon.
you: The white zone is for loading and unloading only.
them: uhm, sure. Look I better hang up now.
you: Rated PG-13.
That was a chronic issue at the ISP I worked at before. Every phone conversation between employees ended with no less than 2 "Thanks". In fact, after pointing it out to people another guy and I would just have entire conversations that were a banter of "Thanks!" said with different connotation. It was so wierd, you could call someone and tell them they're going to be fired, they'd say thanks, and so would you.
ive totally noticed the over use of a thank you in stores, the office, everywhere.
thanks.
thank you.
i appreicate it.
thanks.
thanks for pointing that out
