xbox

there is a new toy in my apartment, all shiny and new, our new xbox. and it scares the crap out of me.

first thing B does is pop in mortal combat. now, I have been known to whoop some butt on fighting games because all you have to do is push random buttons in random orders and ka-pow: total knock out.

but did you know, did you really know, that there are THREE different buttons/thingies for directing your character? three of them. one happy arrow directional thing, and then two free floating, guaranteed-to-walk-you-over-a-cliff joystick rotating things.

then there are four buttons (lovingly lettered and color-coded for the visual learners among us [raises hand]), two teeny black and white buttons below them that look like tiny othello pieces, two separate triggers that... you know, trigger, and two tinier buttons on the left hand side that im only guessing are start and select.

for those of you not keeping track at home, that makes THREE directional devices and TWO triggers and EIGHT buttons. dear lord, give me strength.

i know i have mentioned this in the past, but im so serious this time: i cannot wrap my mind around more than four buttons and a plus-shaped directional button group, and do not even get me started on 3-dimensional games.

so im turning to my fanbase: do you have any xbox game recommendations that would be easy for me (or a 5-year-old) to pick up and even, yes, enjoy playing? extra points if you can think of a multi-player game, and even more points if it is a game my husband would also enjoy (read: be wiling to sit through in order to make his wife happy).

6 Love Notes

Congrats (I think) on the Xbox. I'll keep my eye out for manageable games.

Although I have an 11yr old, the last time I really got into a video game, he was still using sega :o

supposedly "x-men legends" is supposed to be good, and the new game "fable". but knowing your hubby's penchant for rpg addiction, i'd keep him away from "fable".

aside from that, i have not found a single game on the xbox that i actually have played and enjoyed. the x-box is mostly shooter games, or racing games. if you want rpg's, or games with actual plot lines, you go to the ps2.

i too take issue with the two joysticks, and one arrow pad, as most xbox games never use the arrow pad, and rely heavily on the joysticks. i hate joysticks.

the couple of games ive played in the last few nights seemed to let the arrow pad move my character just like the left joystick did. so i ignored the joystick and used the arrow pad. i was much happier.

simpsons, road rage is fun! our xbox is fritzed but I enjoy this game immensely! So does my 4 year old...

ill check it out. thanks, kellie!
