may i take your picture?
i took a ton of pictures for work this weekend at a work event, and got really good at asking people if i could take their picture - and making sure to ask a childs parents for their permission.
now looking back through them, i see that i took many pictures of the same girl at different parts of the event. why, i wonder?
also, while the swing-out digital display of my camera is awesome for taking pictures, most kids apparently want to look towards a human face when having their picture taken. i dont kow how many pictures i have of kids looking well above the frame because i was holding the camera at waist level.
but it was a great experience to help me get over my fear of photographing people.

4 Love Notes
Odd. Honestly I usually find pictures where the subject *isn't* looking directly at the camera to be more compelling. They are more snapshots of life, like someone remembers something, rather than static portraits with different costumes and set dressings.
and i usually agree. but this was for the work newsletter; its really better to have posed action shots for that purpose. if i had been photographing the event for personal purposes, i would have ended up with 100 very different photos.
Good for you. The multiple pics of one girl may have been a safety thing: you'd already asked permission so could shoot away without having to go through the uncomfortable asking process again.
but i asked her every single time i took her picture - i didnt realize it was the same girl until i looked through all of the pictures.
