Rude
May 12, 2005
Calling my organization and then asking if you can put me on hold to grab another line is not only RUDE but it TICKS ME OFF and I suggest you don't do it if you expect to find me still waiting whenever you decide to get back with me. You called me, remember?

as one who has done that before, i should explain that i have customers as well. however, i do ask them to hold while i deal with the first call.
it ain't perfect, but it brings home the bacon. i could always let it roll over to the voice jail, but it is such a pain in the butt to get a message off that system.
so,until people stop calling me, i don't see that i have a choice.
what i want is a voice jail system that will forward the message to my e-mail account as an mp3. that would be way cool.
When you put your first call (the one you made in the first place) aside to answer whatever phone is ringing on your side, you are essentially telling that first call, 'You are not important enough to have my full attention, but I am important enough to have you wait for me and my super-important phone call.' Which may be the case within your office, or if making a social call (if you were to call me, as a friend I would understand you have work to do).
I have to concur with the lack of professional protocol there. If my phone rings while I'm making a call... the person calling me gets voice mail. That's just the way it goes.
Unless you're on your cellphone with your sister (which just happened 10 minutes ago).
