Thirty Days

B and I gave 30 days notice last night that we will be moving out of our apartment.

You would have thought that the break-in, the shouting matches with our neighbors, and the fire would have been enough to get us to move. It was all of that, yes, but the last straw has been all the illegal-drug-activity kind of smoke filling the hallways.

This is the first time we have given notice of our intent to leave without having another apartment to move into, and that scares me. All the what-ifs that run through my brain, the fear of not finding an apartment before our time is up in this one, the panic settling in my chest of having to pack all of our crap and get it to the new place.

Last night we looked at an apartment over one of my co-worker’s garage, but we don’t think it will work for us. So if anyone has any tips of cheap(ish) apartments available in Fairbanks that will allow a very cute and cuddly schnauzer (who has never been duct-taped to a hockey stick), I would welcome them with warm choco chip cookies.

Hope you find a place to stay… but… not to throw water on your hopes… if you find a “cheapish” apartment in this town, and it does not have blatant drug use occurring in the neighborhood at the moment, it soon will. It may or may not last long, but there are just too many drugs in this little town.

I’ve driven cabs in this town enough to know that druggies frequently move to new digs because of non-payment of rent or because of getting kicked out of their last place.

I recommend moving out of town a ways. I paid significantly less rent in Moose Creek, without the hassle of neighbors. Not only did I pay less rent, but I had a big yard, garage and a garden. Moose Creek is only a 20 minute commute in the worst traffic.

Don’t limit yourself to Fairbanks.

I can totally relate to that type of anxiety. Sounds like this is something you need to do though. Kudos for making the decision.

Good for you!

I live in my boiler room apartment not because it’s luxurious and spacious but because it’s in a quiet area and my neighbors leave me the hell alone. That’s pretty much what I look for in a place. The thought of moving out would scare the dickens out of me.

I’m so glad you are moving! That place was getting a bit on the scary side. I’m sure you’ll find a good place - maybe Badger Rd. area?

leave me a love note
