If you weren't as horrified by the wood slat in the living/dining area of the main floor of our new house, just wait until you get a good look at the upstairs.
The top of the stairs from the middle landing. This area gets just a ton of awesome natural light, but I hate the color on the wall. Have I mentioned that? All of this will be painted. Is in the process of being painted. I've been covered by primer all weekend.
To the right of the top of the stairs is the master suite. Which is huge. Has a little sitting area by the windows, and a long walk-in closet. We took the doors down from the closet and don't think we're going to put them back. Maybe some curtains instead? Not sure.
The other end of the master suite shows the master bathroom. We have big plans to renovate the entire master bath, but not for a while because redoing a bathroom takes a lot of work and money. Currently only the toilet and shower/tub are behind a door. We'd like to knock down the wall between the toilet and sink and wall off the whole thing into one room all its own.
We also want to upgrade the vanity and put in a larger tub. The current tub is a jacuzzi tub, but we have no idea if it works. At the very least the sliding doors on the shower are coming down and I'm putting up a shower curtain. Last thing I want is to bonk my head on the stupid sliding door frame at 6am when I'm half asleep is.
The other two bedrooms and the guest bath are at the other side of the stairs. Also an electric radiator. Anyone want that?
The guest bath is outdated, but I don't hate it. Would like different lighting in there (like basically the entire rest of the house) and different flooring. But it's nice.
The bedroom on the left has been dubbed The Girl's Room because it's painted a horrific bright pink that doesn't even look that bad here. But trust me, it's bad. This will be my office, and I have no idea what I will do with all of the space. Steve and I currently share an office that is much smaller than this one.
The bedroom on the left has been dubbed The Boy's Room. I'm sure you can understand why. And it had apparently once been The Girl's Room but the parents were too lazy to properly paint the closet, so it remains the same pepto pink that The Girl's Room is.
All of the wood stacked by the closet was a chair rail that they had nailed to the wall below the sports-themed wallpaper border. All of that had to come down. This will be Steve's office. Or man cave. Or geekout space. Or whatever he's calling it. All I know is that he already has some very nerdy art to hang on the walls.
The Boy's Room is the dirtiest room in the entire house, but the entire upstairs is carpeted and it all looks pretty gross. We're having a professional carpet cleaner come in after we paint, and the guy who gave us a quote was pretty squicked out. But Olive seems to enjoy discovering what the little boy had spilled in every corner of his room.
There's a little linen closet at the top of the stairs. Emphasis on little.
And finally the view down the stairs from the master bedroom. You can see the two windows on the stair landing that lets in awesome amounts of light.
This house has so much potential and the previous owners half-assed so much of it. The trick is to see how much potential we can bring out of it before June 15 when we are out of our apartment.
